Meet the Executive Board

President

Hello Everyone! I'm Meaghen Chalmers, some of you may remember me as this will be my second year as SNEA President, and I couldn't be more excited.  I will be a senior this year, and will graduate in Spring 2014 with my Elementary Education degree and a Liberal Arts Degree with a concentration in reading. I have always wanted to be a teacher, so I joined SNEA to learn more about my future profession and SNEA quickly became a priority of mine.
Outside of SNEA I am a member of Westfield State University's Iota Iota chapter of Kappa Delta Pi, and our University Honors Program.  I also work for the Southwick school district helping struggling students in an on site tutoring center.
I love being involved in such an outstanding club that helps its members learn and grow, and gives back to the community.  We get to participate in so many unique and engaging projects ranging from volunteering at the homeless shelter, to walking in benefit walks, to providing assistance to a school who was hit by the 2011 tornado, to organizing and executing a state wide Outreach to Teach project.  Being a part of SNEA has also allowed me to attend several conferences already in my career in Boston, Washington DC, San Diego and Atlanta!  I've already met so many amazing people and been afforded incredible opportunities by being part of SNEA and I am looking forward to another phenomenal year!

If you have any questions, or just want to chat please don't hesitate to stop me on campus!

Vice President
Kate Roberts

Hello everybody!  My name is Kate and I am the 2013-14 Vice President of the SNEA Executive Board.  I am a Senior majoring in Elementary Education and Liberal Arts and concentrating in English.  I've always wanted to be a teacher; it's something I've never even had to think about.

This will be my third year as an active SNEA member and first as a board member, and I could not be happier to be a part of this organization.  The opportunities it has afforded me in just the past year have already been unbelievable, especially attending two of NEA Student Leadership Conferences in Washington, DC and Atlanta, Georgia.  The workshops we run at our meetings have taught me very nearly as much about teaching as my classes have!  Come learn more about MTELs, classes to take, student teaching and internship programs, classroom management, etc... the list goes on!

Please don't hesitate to stop me on campus to ask questions or just to say hi!

Treasurer

Colleen MacDonald

Hello everyone! My name is Colleen MacDonald, and I am so excited to be your new Treasurer! I am a Junior here at WSU majoring in Early Education. I was part of SNEA my freshman and sophomore years and found it extremely helpful to me, when I was just getting started.  Aside from SNEA, I'm involved with a few more clubs here on campus such as the dance company, and Kappa Delta Pi.

Hope to see you all around :)

Secretary

Alyssa Perry

Hi everyone! My name is Alyssa and I'm excited to be the new secretary of SNEA this year! I am a Senior majoring in Elementary Education and Liberal Arts with a concentration in reading. This will be my fourth year as an active SNEA member and my first year as a Board member.

I joined SNEA as a freshman to learn more about being an education major, and it has helped me in so many ways. The activities we volunteer at as a group are amazing opportunities, and they are always fun! Besides SNEA, I am also a part of the Westfield State Dance Company and Kappa Delta Pi.

I hope you enjoy SNEA as much as I do. If you have any questions, or just want to say hi, I'll be around campus :)

Secondary Education Representative

Katie Thomann

Hi everyone! My name is Katie and I am the 2013-2014 Secondary Ed Representative of the SNEA Executive Board. I am a senior English and secondary education major here at Westfield. I love being involved in SNEA because of all of the volunteer and professional development opportunities it has provided for me. Being actively involved in community service has always been important to me and SNEA has given me the chance to work with other education majors on a ton of amazing causes, both in and out of the education field. Perusing an ed. degree can feel crazy overwhelming at times, so SNEA is a great way to bond with other education majors and learn a lot along the way.
This year, I am also the Secondary Education Liason for Kappa Delta Pi, the education honor society on campus, as well as Sigma Tau Delta, the English honor society. My big focus this year is getting more secondary ed. majors involved in SNEA and bringing more secondary ed. events and volunteer opportunists to the table. If you have any questions, ask away and I hope to see you all around!

Editor

Julie Dabenigno

Hey Guys! My name is Julie and I am the 2013-2014 Editor of the SNEA Executive Board! I am a senior majoring in Early Childhood Education and Liberal Arts with a concentration in Psychology! Being an active member of SNEA has been very beneficial for me. I have learned a lot from the workshops we have to offer! The workshops have had about the same amount of impact on my learning to become a teacher as my classes have. They have also helped relieve some of the stress of being an education major!  I have also been able to participate in some very cool benefit walks and community projects. Attending the NEA student leadership conference in Atlanta this summer was an experience I will never forget!

I am very excited for this upcoming SNEA year! Be as active as you can to gain all that being an SNEA member has to offer! If you have any questions or just want to talk please feel free to email or stop me on campus!
